Connect an AI app

Connect an AI assistant to RealNotes so it can find and read your notes when you ask. You sign in and approve access yourself; the assistant never sees your password.

The server address for every app below is:

https://www.realnotes.online/api/mcp

Use exactly this address, including www. Without it, most apps fail to connect.

Tested with Claude Code and the Claude desktop app. The steps for the other apps follow their published documentation, but we haven’t run them ourselves yet, and menus change often. If a step doesn’t match what you see, look for the app’s “add a custom MCP server” option, or tell us.

What an assistant can do

When you approve a connection you choose how much to allow. Reading is always included; editing is a separate checkbox, off unless you tick it.

Always (read access)

Only if you tick “Create and edit your notes”

Never

Anything an assistant reads is sent to that AI provider, under their terms. Agent access may also be limited to certain plans; if it isn’t available to you, the approval screen says so.

Refer to a note by the number shown in the app, for example “read note 17”.

Claude Code · tested

  1. In a terminal, run:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user notes https://www.realnotes.online/api/mcp
  1. Start Claude Code and run /mcp.
  2. Pick notes, then Authenticate. Your browser opens RealNotes; sign in and choose Approve.
  3. Ask something like “what’s in note 17?”.

Leave out --scope user to make it available in the current project only.

Other commands you may need:

claude mcp list
claude mcp get notes
claude mcp remove notes

list shows whether the connection is working, get shows its details, and remove disconnects it. To change the address, remove it and add it again.

Claude (desktop app, claude.ai and Cowork) · desktop app tested

  1. Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it “RealNotes” and paste the server address. Leave any client ID or secret fields empty.
  3. Choose Connect, sign in to RealNotes and approve.
  4. In a chat, turn the connector on from the tools menu.

Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan. On Team and Enterprise plans an organization owner may need to add the connector first.

ChatGPT · not yet tested

  1. Open Settings → Connectors (or Apps), then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode. This is only offered on some paid plans.
  2. Choose Create to add a custom connector. Name it “RealNotes” and paste the server address.
  3. Set authentication to OAuth, accept the warning for unverified connectors, and create it.
  4. Sign in to RealNotes and approve.
  5. In a chat, turn the connector on from the tools menu.

Google Antigravity · not yet tested

  1. In the Agent panel, open the … menu, choose Manage MCP Servers, then View raw config (this opens mcp_config.json).
  2. Add this entry. Antigravity uses serverUrl, not url:
{ "mcpServers": { "notes": { "serverUrl": "https://www.realnotes.online/api/mcp" } } }
  1. Save, then refresh the server list. Your browser opens RealNotes to sign in and approve.

Any other app

Any app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in should work. Add a server with the address above and the “streamable HTTP” transport if it asks. Apps that only run local servers aren’t supported.

Troubleshooting

Stopping access

Remove the connector in the AI app to stop it using RealNotes. A screen in Settings to review and revoke connected apps is coming.
